bring light towards you

Yesterday at the Morris Feinmann Home, we started a new collaborative text/art piece, using short text pieces, transferred onto candles. I’m off to Israel in a couple of weeks and wanted to take something of arthur+martha work, (and of England) there. We have discovered through reminiscences at the home, that candles have rich symbolism in the Jewish cultural and religious life. Lines where chosen from memories, and applied with pen, transfers and letroset. ‘bring light towards you.’

The candles will be lit in different locations in Israel and documented.

In addition we started some postcard/filing card pieces, which start with ‘what peace means/meant to me.’ The question was answered in the main with memories of the end of the 2nd world war. “Peace meant I could get on with my life.” The intention is to ask a selection of people the same question and to gather the responses in some manner.

embroidered book

Yesterday at Marlhill Court, we created a beautiful series of embroidered monograms, inspired by stitched tablecloths that belonged to my grandma, and arts and crafts monograms. Participants designed their own, then transferred designs to fabric. A hushed silence followed as the group got absorbed in the stitching…. drawing with embroidery threads… the embroideries will be collected together to form a fabric sample book for our hand made book exhibition.
